Day 28...Adventure

Dear Sadie,
Why do kids fight naps?  My main conclusion is that you people just don’t want to miss a thing!  There’s too much to explore.  There’s too much to see and do.  At three and a half I have decided to deprive you no longer and cut your daily nap out so that you can be more active during the day and be ready to go to bed at night.  You never were one who longed for nap time.  While you did get into a routine at some point, you still always thought of it more as punishment!  Cutting naps out has seemed to work really well so far, although you still get sleepy at times (usually in the car).  And on a rainy day like today, you just could not make it.  With one little backrub you were begging to go to sleep.  So who am I to deny you of a nap on a day like today?  Even I took a nap!
I love that kids live a life full of adventure.  From the day we are born, we are born into a journey.  Adventure originates from the word “advent,” which means an arrival, coming, introduction, dawn, or beginning.  Upon our arrival into this world, we are ready to embark on this great journey.  You don’t have to teach a child, but you sometimes have to re-teach adults who have parked it a little too long and forgot their way.  Jesus had “no place to lay his head.”  Does that mean we all have to be wanderlust?  Nah.  Some are driven to be nomads.  But I think for me it is a reminder that we are all just passing through.  So whatever we spend our lives doing, make sure it is ultimately storing up treasures for the greater adventure: eternity. And make a little time for child-like exploration along the way, too!  He didn't make all of this wonderful creation for nothing!
Love,
Mommy
